Experience

Brian Duscha, MS, is an Exercise Physiologist at Duke University Medical Center and has been studying cardiovascular disease for over 25 years. His research includes clinical uses of cardiopulmonary exercise testing, cardiac rehabilitation, and mechanisms of exercise intolerance in chronic disease. In addition, he studies clinical outcomes of patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD), heart failure (HF), coronary artery disease (CAD), and type 2 diabetes. His primary interest is in prevention, specifically exercise training as an intervention in pre-clinical and diseased populations and exercise dose response for improving risk factors and clinical outcomes. His basic science interests include using exercise to stimulate small blood-vessel growth (angiogenesis) and skeletal-muscle metabolism. He has recently started implementing mobile technology as a home-based intervention for cardiovascular populations and testing elite athletes. He has coordinated several large National Institutes of Health funded clinical trials on how exercise training improves cardiovascular disease populations. He has over 50 peer reviewed scientific publications.
