2 Popular Holiday Treats Have Been Recalled From a Budget Grocery Store Nationwide
It’s been the wild week of recalls for holiday foodies and shoppers hoping to get their baking and gifting started early. First, a popular brand of pecans was recalled after a labeling mixup, followed closely by a brand of cinnamon being recalled due to elevated levels of lead. Now, a major budget grocer is letting its loyal customers know about two types of a sweet holiday treat being recalled due to two sources of undeclared allergens.
In an announcement first posted on Wednesday afternoon by discount chain Aldi, Silvestri Sweets Inc., has issued a voluntary recall on for two types of holiday bark: Choceur Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark and Choceur Cookie Butter Holiday Bark. Though Aldi’s notice lists out 24 states and Washington, D.C. affected by the recall, a separate alert posted a short time later by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) indicates that the recalled items “were distributed nationwide through Aldi grocery stores.”
According to both the Aldi and FDA notices, the Choceur Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark was recalled due to a potential undeclared wheat allergen, while the Choceur Cookie Butter Holiday Bark was recalled due to a potential undeclared pecan allergen. Once notified, the impacted products were removed from Aldi’s shelves.
As of press time, no illnesses have been reported, according to the FDA. However, the agency warns that individuals allergic to either wheat or pecans “run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”
The affected Cookie Butter Holiday Bark was packaged in 5-ounce Choceur-branded stand-up pouch bags. Recalled items bears the Lot # 29225 and the Best By Date of 05/2026, which can be found on the back of the bags.
Also packaged in 5-ounce stand-up pouch bags, the recalled Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark has a Lot # of 29225 and a Best By Date of 08/2026.
An apparent switch in packaging led to the incident—the FDA says the recall went into effect “after it was discovered that the Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark had been packaged in Cookie Butter Holiday Bark packages resulting in undeclared pecan, and that the Cookie Butter Holiday Bark has been packaged in Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark packages resulting in undeclared wheat.”
Further investigation deemed that the problem was likely caused “by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging process.”
Aldi is urging customers to discard the product immediately or return it to their local store for a full refund.
