Seafood Has Been Recalled in 3 States by a Major Grocer

When deciding on a peak protein, salmon consistently ranks at the top of most health experts’ list. This fish pick is packed with omega-3s—and recent research even found that eating “oily” fish such as salmon or tuna could help with autoimmune symptoms.

So while it’s probably a great idea to add more of this good-for-you fish to your meals, regular shoppers at one popular discount chain—ALDI—want to double-check any recent food hauls from there.

Over the weekend, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of Santa Monica Seafood’s Atlantic Salmon Portions with Seafood Stuffing products from ALDI locations in three states: California, Nevada, and Arizona.

Then, on Tuesday, ALDI released their own details about the recall, saying they “immediately removed impacted products from store shelves” after being notified by the supplier.

Neither recall notice states how many products have been recalled.

Santa Monica Seafood’s website indicates that the company is the “largest wholesale seafood-only distributor in the Southwest.” According to the FDA report, Santa Monica Seafood, which is based in Rancho Dominguez, California, voluntarily initiated the recall after a “routine inspection of label proofs from a completed production batch.” The company reportedly discovered that soy was not listed on the product’s label despite being an ingredient.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy risk a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the FDA report notes.

The FDA includes soy in its list of nine major food allergens. The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) requires companies to list these major allergens on product labels to avoid consumers experiencing potentially serious side effects.

The product’s date code is printed on the front of the package and located on the white area of the label beneath the product’s image.

ALDI suggests customers either immediately discard the product or return it to a store for a full refund.
