Members of big-box stores like Costco, Sam’s, and BJ’s tend to have their favorite items to stock up on when they visit. Today, shoppers at one of these are getting a warning about a sweet made mainstream-popular by a classic children’s story.

If it was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe—a book in the Chronicles of Narnia series, which happens to be getting a reboot under Greta Gerwig’s direction later this yearthat first spurred your taste for Turkish delight, Costco sells it in wide supply. However, Friday, March 12, the warehouse grocer published a notice alerting customers of an issue with Alreef Assorted Turkish Delight. “We recently identified that the nutrition facts panel printed on the bottom of the tin contains incorrect nutrition information,” stated Golden Star Wholesale Inc., the apparent distributor of the product.

More details on the error weren’t clear, but the nutrition information on the label published indicates 150 calories per three-piece serving, and 23 grams added sugar. Protein content is listed as one gram.

We spoke with a representative at Golden Star Wholesale, who elaborated: “The amount of sugar is a little more than listed.” The individual believed sugar content had been discovered to be “30 or 32” grams. With four grams being equal to one teaspoon, this may suggest a difference of approximately two teaspoons of sugar in contrast with what is listed on product purchased between October 1, 2025 and March 5, 2026.

The Costco-supplied notice states “the product itself … meets all quality and food safety standards.” Customers may return the product to Costco for a full refund.

The message also adds that the dessert “remains safe to consume,” but it may offer instruction for individuals being mindful about their sugar intake for health reasons: as multiple recent recalls have highlighted, product labels aren’t always accurate.
