Few things scream summer more than heading out to a county or state fair, or perhaps even an amusement park. Between enjoying all the rides, games, and exhibits, you simply can’t pass up those classic fair foods. Though crowd favorites vary regionally, certain foods (especially fried ones) seem universally beloved.

For those who can’t make it to one of these events (or simply want to enjoy a carnival staple anytime), many grocers now offer convenient versions of these treats. But bargain shoppers who also happen to be fans of churros—strips of fried dough that are typically topped with sugar and sometimes have a sweet filling—should be aware of a new recall notice issued this week.

On Tuesday, June 3, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of ALDI Brand Casa Mamita Churro Bites Filled with Chocolate Hazelnut Cream. The churro bites appear to be sold frozen.

The next day, the discount grocery chain ALDI also posted details concerning the recall on their website, saying the product was “immediately removed” from stores.

Neither the FDA nor ALDI list how many boxes of the churro bites are being recalled.

The FDA’s notice says the churro bites “may contain undeclared milk.” Individuals with either a milk allergy or severe sensitivity could experience a “serious or life-threatening allergic reaction” if they were to eat the products.

An estimated 6.2 million Americans have a milk allergy, and it’s one of the major allergens that “must be listed in plain language on packaged foods sold in the U.S.,” according to Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE).

According to ALDI, the product was sent to “select ALDI stores” in the following 13 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The product details as provided by ALDI are:

  • Product: Casa Mamita Churro Bites Filled with Chocolate Hazelnut Cream
  • Packaging: 7.05 ounces (oz.) box
  • UPC: 4061459561807
  • Best If Used By Date: July 14, 2026

(Note: The Best If Used By Date provided by ALDI is different from JUL/14/2025, which is what is listed by the FDA.)

The FDA also provided a Lot Number of 01425 in its report.

The recalling firm, Camerican International out of Paramus, NJ, “imports and sources thousands of food products from the world, for the largest retail, industrial and foodservice players,” says its website.

An observant shopper apparently first noted the issue with undeclared milk—the FDA’s notice says the consumer “discovered that the milk-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk.” After an investigation, it was determined that a “temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes” had caused the issue. The processes problem has since been resolved.

There have been no reported illnesses to date, per the FDA’s report.

ALDI says customers can either discard the product or return it to a local store for a full refund.
