If you’re a fan of natural home remedies, you may already be aware of Manuka honey. This particular type of honey—with origins in New Zealand and Australia—boasts “antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties,” according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Manuka honey offer antibacterial effects that “are a lot higher than other honey counterparts,” says Bailey Flora, RD, a registered dietician with the Cleveland Clinic. This makes the honey a popular pick for soothing sore throats or other concerns. (Still, Flora cautions: “Manuka honey isn’t a cure-all. But it can be used alongside other kinds of conventional treatments.”)

But if you count on a spoonful of this honey in your tea every morning, you’ll want to hear about a new recall affecting one particular brand’s products.

Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alerted the public to the recall of 8,190 total units of Comvita brand Manuka Honey. Three different honey products are involved:

  • Manuka Honey + Lion’s Mane for Focus
  • Manuka Honey + Cordyceps for Energy
  • Manuka Honey + Reishi

According to the FDA report, the reason for the recall is a “leaking induction seal on packaging.” The notice doesn’t explain this any further, but presumably, a compromised seal could expose a product to outside contaminants.

The FDA indicates that the recalled products were shipped to distribution centers in seven states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, and Texas. The agency did not further elaborate where the products may have been sold.

The recall report also shares the following product details:

The report refers to COMVITA USA INC as the recalling firm. The Santa Barbara, California-based company says it has “over five decades of perfecting our beekeeping craft,” according to its website. It appears to sell a variety of Manuka honey and bee-related products online.

Comvita evidently initiated the recall on May 23, but the FDA didn’t report on it until this week when the agency gave the event a Class II risk label. Class II recalls involve products that may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects.
