At the end of a long day, indulging in a glass of red wine and a plate of cheese and crackers can be an ideal way to unwind. But snacking on crackers can also satisfy a midday stomach growl…though maybe be mindful of how many you eating at a time if you’re wanting to watch the numbers of carbohydrates in your diet.

If you have a favorite brand of crackers, it might be a good idea to check your kitchen cabinets or pantry, as a particular flavor of a popular brand was just pulled from shelves after an apparent production issue resulted in some mislabeling errors.

Last week Wednesday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that an undisclosed number of Firehook Artisan Classic Sea Salt Organic Crackers are being recalled along the East Coast. The company behind the crackers, Firehook of Virginia, reportedly initiated the recall after learning of “undeclared sesame” in the product.

The FDA states, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to sesame run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.”

According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, sesame is one of the top nine food allergens in the U.S., and approximately 1 million Americans have a sesame allergy.

The issue was reportedly caused by “a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes causing the wrong labels to be applied to the product,” the FDA says.

The crackers were said to be sold at retail stores in 11 states: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Virginia.

The FDA report does not specify at which stores the recalled crackers were sold, but a look at Firehook of Virginia’s website suggests they sell various products at Costco, Whole Foods, Stop & Shop, Amazon, and more.

The FDA shared the following identifying details about the product:

  • Brand: Firehook
  • Product: Artisan Classic Sea Salt Crackers
  • Size: 8 ounces (oz.)
  • UPC Code: 8 99055 00063 5
  • Packaging: Clear package
  • Best-By Date: 09/29/25

Firehook of Virginia apparently initiated the recall on May 30; however, the FDA shared the information on June 4.

There have been no confirmed illnesses related to the product. Still, the FDA encourages consumers to return the recalled crackers to the place of purchase for a full refund.
