‘Tis the season to brainstorm big-ticket gift requests that can make fitness inspiring in the new year and beyond. When you make that investment and show up to each session, you assume safety is built in. Yet a new product recall affecting one of Peloton’s most popular products could pose a setback. According to a November 6 notice by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the company has recalled 833,000 exercise bikes sold in the U.S. and 44,800 units sold in Canada after the company learned that the seats can break during use, posing a risk of fall or injury.

“As part of Peloton’s commitment to product safety and our loyal Members, we are voluntarily recalling certain seat posts on Peloton Original Series Bike+ models manufactured from December 2019 through July 2022, in cooperation with the CPSC,” the company wrote in its own November 6 statement. Representatives note that out of a combined 877,000 units, there were only three reports of seats breaking, two of which resulted in fall injury.

The affected units were sold at Peloton and Dick’s Sporting Goods stores nationwide and online at onepeloton.com, ebay.com, Amazon.com, and Dickssportinggoods.com. They were distributed between January 2020 and April 2025, retailing for around $2,495.

The report lists details that can tell you whether your own home equipment is affected by the recall. The affected bikes measure four feet by two feet wide and come with an adjustable seat and handlebar. They reportedly bear the model number “PL02” and a serial number beginning with the letter “T” (i.e. TABCSSXXXXX). The bike’s serial number is located inside the front fork, behind the front fork, or behind the flywheel, the notice states. Customers having difficulty locating their bike’s serial number can find more information here. If in doubt, don’t ride—see contact information below.

Though only one part of the bike is affected by the recall, the company is urging consumers to “immediately stop using the recalled exercise bikes and contact Peloton for a free repair.” As remediation, the company is offering consumers a free seat post that can be self-installed at home, “without the need for a service call using the installation instructions provided by Peloton.”

To obtain your free replacement seat post, you can visit this product replacement page on the company’s site. Consumers with questions can contact Peloton Member Support toll-free at (833) 821-0099 from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. ET,  seven days a week. For help installing your replacement seat post, you can watch this video or follow these PDF instructions
