There’s nothing like a good homecooked meal…but premade dinners from the local supermarket are a close second. Not only can you skip the chore of cooking—but there won’t be any pots or pans to wash!

However, if you’ve grabbed an easy dish from the store recently, you’ll want to take extra precautions and examine its label closely.

The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is alerting the public to the recall of ready-to-eat chicken fettuccine alfredo meals that were produced before June 17 due to a possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The bacteria Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a type of food poisoning, says the Cleveland Clinic. Typically, Listeria infections result in mild symptoms like a fever, headache, and diarrhea. However, it can be dangerous and even life-threatening for people who have weakened immune systems, who are over 65 years old, or who are pregnant.

FreshRealm—a food distributor with establishments in San Clemente, California; Montezuma, Georgia; and Indianapolis, Indiana—apparently initiated the recall “out of an abundance of caution.”

According to the FSIS notice, the products were shipped to Walmart and Kroger locations across the country.

Walmart has listed this recall on its website’s “Product Recalls” page, noting: “Sold at: Walmart stores in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.”

Kroger has also posted about the recall, sharing that Home Chef Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo may have been distributed to stores in 16 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The FSIS has also shared these details:

32.8-oz. tray packages of Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettuccine

  • Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese
  • Best-by date 06/27/25 or prior

12.3 oz. tray packages of Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Fettucine

  • Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken, Broccoli and Shaved Parmesan Cheese
  • Best-by date 06/26/25 or prior

12.5 oz. tray packages of Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo

  • Pasta, grilled white meat chicken, and Parmesan cheese
  • Best-by date 06/19/25 or prior

Each item reportedly features the USDA mark of inspection on its label. Establishment numbers “EST. P-50784,” “EST. P-47770,” or “EST. P-47718” are also printed on its label and can be found on the side of each package.

Published June 17, the FSIS report indicates that this recall has been labeled a Class I risk. This is the highest possible risk level for a recall and is reserved for situations in which “there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

The FSIS and “public health partners” are apparently looking into an outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes. This outbreak has reportedly been linked to illnesses in 17 people in 13 states, as well as three deaths and a fetal loss.

The report states that the FSIS is working to “identify whether a specific ingredient in the chicken fettucine alfredo may be the source of this strain of [Listeria monocytogenes].”

The FSIS cautions consumers to check their refrigerators or freezers for the recalled products and warns them not to eat these meals. Instead, consumers should reportedly toss the items or return them to the place of purchase.

Consumers can contact FreshRealm’s customer service with questions about the recall at 888-244-1562.
