The Cleveland Clinic estimates that more than 6 million Americans are allergic to milk—with as many as 2% to 6% of children experiencing the allergy in particular. So keeping tabs on where dairy may or may not be present is essential for many, especially when also considering the 30 million Americans who experience lactose intolerance. Based on a late Wednesday announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there’s a new recall to know about—and it’s involves a massively popular brand.

The FDA’s notice states that Frito-Lay—the company behind other recognizable chip brands such as Cheetos, Doritos, Lay’s, and Ruffles—has issued a recall affecting 8-ounce bags of Miss Vickie’s Spicy Dill Pickle Potato chips. Interestingly, the recall is happening because the bags “could include jalapeño-flavored potato chips and therefore may contain undeclared milk.” It is not further explained how the jalapeño-flavored potato chips may have ended up in bags marked for the Spicy Dill Pickle flavor.

In a Frito-Lay press release, the company states that “Unless a consumer has a dairy allergy or sensitivity to milk, this product is safe to consume.” The concern was apparently first flagged by a customer, as the issue was first identified “following a consumer contact.” The FDA says that no allergic reactions have been reported as of press time.

The recall is not unlike another Frito-Lay product recall involving Lay’s potato chips in December 2024, which cited that those chips “may contain milk and, if eaten, could result in severe allergic reactions in persons sensitive to milk.”

The FDA says the recalled chips “may have been distributed as early as January 15, 2026, to a mix of retailers including grocery, convenience, and drug stores, as well as local digital retailers.” Six states are listed in the distribution pattern: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.

The agency provided a product photo for reference, along with the following identifying details:

  • Size: 8 ounces (oz.)
  • UPC Listed on Back of Bag: 0 28400 761772
  • Code Date & Manufacturing Code – Listed on Front of Bag Along Right Side: Both “Guaranteed Fresh” date of 21 APR 2026 AND one of these 9-digiy Manufacturing Codes: 38U301414, 48U101514

It should be noted that “No other Miss Vickie’s products, sizes, or flavors are recalled, including bags in Variety Packs,” per the FDA.

The agency advises that anyone with either an allergy or sensitivity to milk should “immediately” throw the product and should not eat it. Consumers are directed to either visit the Miss Vickie’s website or call 1-877-984-2543 for more details.
