It's a seasonal favorite at the end of its peak that officials warn could be affected by a significant food safety issue.
Fruit Sold at Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Costco, Target, and Others Has Been Recalled Nationwide
As fall settles in, the last ripe peaches of the season can feel like a sweet echo of summer’s sunny warmth. But before you slice one for your morning oatmeal or bake that late-season cobbler, health officials are warning of a new recall impacting several peach brands sold in major grocery chains across the country. Though the full picture is still emerging, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Costco, Target, Sprouts, Food Lion, Wegmans, and others have so far self-identified as distributors on their independent recall websites.
According to an October 30 notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the fruit, produced by Moonlight Companies, could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. One in six people with invasive Listeriosis—Listeria infection that spreads beyond the intestines—die, the CDC warns.
The California-grown yellow and white peaches included in the recall were sold between September 16, 2025 and October 29, 2025. The incident includes products branded as Moonlight Yellow Peaches, Moonlight White Peaches, Moonlight Peppermint Peaches, and Kroger Yellow Peaches, each sold either as individual fruits with PLU stickers, or in multi-packs. The FDA notes that packages or PLU stickers with the words “Washington” and/or “Organic” are not affected by the recall.
The potentially contaminated peaches may also bear the following information:
- Facility Code: P1
- PLU Numbers (located on stickers placed on individual fruits): 4401, 4044
- Lot Codes: 01PCLC, 03PCAF, 106PCLF, 113PCAF, 113PCLF, 129PCLF, 134PCLF, 142PCLF, 150PCLF, 151PCLF, 159PCABA, 159PCABB, 159PCPG10, 20, 22PCAB, 22PCPG10A, 22PCPG10B, 22PCP8A, 22PCPG8B, 22PCPG8C, 23, 25, 30PCEN, 40LT, 40YP#3, 44PCLC, 44PCLCB, 45, 51PCLC, 51PCLCB, 86PCAF, 69PWPR, 79PWPRT
The peaches were determined to be a possible health threat after equipment at their packing facility tested positive for the microbe. Healthy adults exposed to Listeria may experience only short-term symptoms—most commonly fever, headache, nausea, and gastrointestinal problems. However, Listeria infection can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, and “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” says the FDA.
The FDA reports no illnesses had been noted at the time of their announcement.
Some stores, such as Costco, are said to have offered refunds for customers who return the affected fruits. Consumers with questions can contact Moonlight Companies via the recall notice information available above.
