A year after the notorious Boar's Head recall comes a new warning on recent retail deli counter purchases.

Nearly 150,000 More Pounds of Meat Were Just Recalled Nationwide

As much of the country continues to experience extreme temperatures, keeping the kitchen cool is a mealtime win. Though eating cold cuts is wisest in moderation, turkey lunch meat or sliced ham piled on bread is a classic way to beat the heat—not to mention a budget-friendly picnic menu for fireworks viewing.
But after a ground beef recall at a Southern supermarket chain this weekend, officials are now warning that some consumers might’ve not gotten exactly what they thought they were purchasing at the deli counter.
It was around this time last year when Boar’s Head first issued what became a continual recall that turned into one of the biggest meat recalls in history. Now, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a nationwide recall affecting about 143,416 pounds of ready-to-eat bologna products from Gaiser’s European Style Provisions, Inc., a Union, NJ-based company known for its Eastern European-inspired meats and condiments.
The FSIS says the products were produced between March 20 and June 20, 2025 and distributed to both wholesale and retail locations nationwide—and some products “would have been weighed, wrapped, and labeled” at retail stores at the time of purchase. This, along with the description of the packaging methods below, suggests the meat was displayed in the cold cuts case for ordering at the deli, as well as packaged in smaller single units, such as zip-sealed bags, for consumers to pick up independently and refrigerate at home.
The issue, which was reportedly first discovered via a consumer complaint to the Office of Inspector General, is that the products involved were mislabeled in various ways and “contain meat or poultry source materials that are not declared on the product labels.” This can be an issue for individuals with an allergy to any of the ingredients listed below, or who avoid these products for religious or other reasons. Provided product details, along with the reasons for their recall, include:
- Family Tree Bologna Veal, vacuum-packed packages, containing undeclared pork
- Babushka’s Recipe Chicken Bologna, plastic-wrapped packages, containing undeclared pork
- Fancy Bologna, plastic-wrapped packages, labeled with pork as an ingredient but containing undeclared beef and chicken
- Gaisers Russian Brand Doktorskaya Bologna, vacuum-packed packages, containing undeclared beef
- Gaisers Bologna Veal, plastic-wrapped packages, containing undeclared chicken and pork
- Gaisers Turkey Bologna, plastic-wrapped packages, containing undeclared chicken and pork
- Chicken Bologna Kypoyka Paba, plastic-wrapped packages, containing undeclared pork
The product labels should have the establishment number “EST. 5385” inside a USDA mark of inspection. Product images were also provided in the above FSIS report link.
The FSIS has labeled the recall as a Class III event, meaning there is a “marginal risk” to consumers. The USDA explains Class III recall classifications as “a situation where the use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences or the risk is negligible.”
There have been no reported “adverse reactions” from this recall, according to the FSIS.
The agency urges consumers to check their refrigerators or freezers for the products and either throw away any affected meat or return it to the place of purchase. Additionally, it’s said restaurants and other food service institutions should not serve the recalled meats.
