Just last week, a recall affecting three types of Ben’s Original rice was updated after product was initially pulled due to the “possible presence of small, naturally occurring stones originating from the rice farm.” Now, a new rice recall has hit a chain of stores scattered across the Eastern U.S.—with a strikingly similar warning regarding the product.

On April 4, regional grocery chain Wegmans informed customers via an online notice that Lundberg Organic Jasmine White Rice, sold in two-pound portions, has been recalled due to the “Possible presence of foreign material.” However, it is not further clarified what the foreign material could be—or how serious of a risk it is.

Wegmans also provided consumers the following product details:

  • Lundberg Organic Jasmine White Rice
  • UPC: 073416- 040281
  • Impacted Best By dates/Lot codes: 02/01/2027, 260201 & 02/02/2027, 260202

A brief online search suggests that Lundberg-branded rice may be sold in other popular retailers, including Walmart and Whole Foods. The Lundberg Family Farms website indicates the company is based in Richvale, California, and focuses on “regenerative organic” growing practices.

It is not immediately clear how widespread the recall is in Wegmans stores. According to the company’s website, the grocer operates 110 stores across the Eastern states of Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, in addition to Washington, D.C.

Customers are told that “All product” can be returned for a refund, according to the recall notice.
