If you had to pick a perfect pickle, there’s no shortage of pucker-worthy options: dill, gherkins, sweet, bread and butter, Kosher… As an added bonus, research has said your gut and kidneys may benefit from that zing, too.

But if your weekend plans involve stacking pickles on burgers, Chicago dogs, or a summer veggie tray, here’s a word of warning for consumers in one Midwest state.

Early Friday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration reported a wide-ranging recall of Gedney brand pickles, specifically for several types of dill, zinger, and ghost pepper pickle products. The report seems to suggest 3,520 cases are affected across the pickle varieties. With a stated 12 jars per case, it seems a total of 42,240 pickle jars have been recalled.

The recalling firm—Gedney Foods Product, LLC of Bloomington, MN—appears to package under the Gedney brand. The Brands section of their website also suggests they supply pickles under two other labels: Cain’s and well-known canned produce brand Del Monte.

The FDA indicates in the notice that some customers may have been able to purchase jars that should’ve been destroyed, as “Products were slated for disposal due to product and container damage, but were inadvertently sold.” How the issue was first discovered is not clarified in the report.

The recalled pickles were reportedly only distributed to Minnesota. According to the Gedney website, retailers such as Target (which is headquartered in Minnesota), Rainbow Foods, Cub, Hy-Vee, Miners, Kowalski’s, Fareway, and more may carry their pickles within the state.
