It's a 4th of July favorite for firing up the grill, but a grocer in one region is warning customers about potential contamination.

Meat Recalled by a Popular Grocery Store in One State

Biting into a juicy cheeseburger while watching Fourth of July fireworks explode in the night sky is about as American as you can get. Add in “Born in the U.S.A.” blaring from a speaker, and you’ve got a celebration for the books.
But before you defrost that ground beef from your freezer and shape it into patties, check its packaging.
Publix has announced that it’s voluntarily recalled “select of Market Ground Beef Products” at two store locations in Georgia.
The recall is reportedly due to the “potential of foreign material in the product,” as Publix stated in two separate notices. Neither elaborates on what the “foreign material” may be or how it could have potentially gotten into the meat.
According to the recall announcement, the affected products were produced in two locations on different days:
- Abernathy Square Shopping Center Sandy Springs, Georgia, on June 25
- Limestone Marketplace Shopping Center in Gainesville, Georgia, on June 26
The reports states that no other Publix locations are affected by the recall.
Regarding the recalled meat sold at Abernathy Square, the notice indicates that its sell-by date is June 26. The recalled products at Limestone Marketplace, on the other hand, reportedly have a sell-by date of June 27.
“As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from the store shelves,” says Maria Brous, Publix director of communication, in both recall notices.
Publix advises customers to either throw out the recalled meat or return it for a refund. The announcement shares that consumers can contact Publix Customer Care with any questions or concerns at (800) 242-1227.
