All this means other unknown additional allergens were included in the batch, too—making this a serious health concern for certain consumers.
Popular Tuna Recalled at the FDA’s Highest Risk Level in 5 States
Food allergies affect around 30 million Americans, according to recent years’ national data. For people with a fish allergy—falling under seafood, one of the most common—the stakes of a mislabeled product can be serious. That’s why a new FDA alert out of the Pacific Northwest is worth heeding, as some customers may not have gotten what they ordered.
Reser’s Fine Foods, an Oregon-based food manufacturer, is recalling a quantity of its tuna salad after the product was found to be packaged under a mismatched lid. Specifically, the five-pound plastic tubs of Molly Kitchen’s Tuna Salad were sealed with a lid labeled as Molly Kitchen’s Chicken Salad—meaning a shopper or foodservice worker reading only the lid would have no way of knowing the container actually holds tuna. A Friday FDA report revealed the master cardboard case label correctly identifies the product as tuna salad, but the individual tubs carry no side labeling of their own.
The concern goes further, as additional allergens are part of the recipes for each: the tuna salad also reportedly contains egg and wheat, while the chicken salad label lists eggs, milk, and wheat.
The recall was initiated on January 30, 2026, and the FDA assigned it a Class I designation on February 19—the agency’s most serious recall level, reserved for situations where there is a reasonable probability that consuming the product could cause serious adverse health consequences.
The affected product was distributed through US Foods, Inc. to Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, and Washington. The US Foods distribution of bulk containers suggests the product was sold into foodservice accounts, such as delis, cafeterias, or supermarkets, among other possibilities.
The recalled product details are as follows:
- Molly Kitchen’s Tuna Salad (mislabeled with Chicken Salad lid)
- Item number: 794599
- Net weight: 5 lb (2.26 kg) per tub, sold 2 tubs per case (10 lb per case)
- Tub UPC: 7 5810830149 8
- Case UPC: 075810876447
- Recall number: H-0517-2026
If you purchased or received this product through a foodservice supplier in any of the five affected states, check the tub lid against the case label. If the lid reads “Chicken Salad” but the case reads “Tuna Salad,” do not serve or consume the product, and contact your supplier for guidance on returning it.
