Attention, Sam’s Club shoppers: A new notice at the members-only warehouse may impact a grocery item that’s currently in your kitchen.

Variety packs, sold in 15-count boxes, of Member’s Mark Freeze Dried Fruit have been recalled in 42 states and Puerto Rico, according to a Thursday report published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Though the products were sold at Sam’s Club locations, the recalling company is listed as Doehler Dry Ingredient Solutions, LLC of Cartersville, GA.

The fruit snack products are being recalled “due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes,” which the agency explains as “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”

The contamination issue was discovered “via internal testing of their products.” No illnesses have yet been reported, according to the FDA.

The fruit packs were reportedly distributed between July 1 and July 25 this year. Provided product details include:

  • Member’s Mark Freeze Dried Fruit Variety Pack
  • Size: 15 count
  • UPC: 1 93968 50900 2
  • Packaged in foil pouches inside a corrugated box
  • Lot number and expiration dates located on the bottom of the case

Additional details, including lot or manufacturing codes and use-by dates, are available at the above FDA link.

The FDA’s notice also provided a product label image, which indicates the variety packs contained five pouches of strawberries, five pouches of bananas, and five pouches of apples. The freeze-dried fruit can be added to yogurt, granola, or smoothies, or enjoyed as a snack, according to the label. Health-conscious consumers may also add this type of fruit to a plain, high-fiber cereal for added sweetness and nutrition.

The corporate recall page for Sam’s Club say the fruit packs were available at “select Sam’s Clubs” in the following 42 states, as well as Puerto Rico: Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Wyoming.

If you have the recalled packs on hand, the FDA advises not to eat the fruit. Instead, discard it or visit “any Sam’s Club” for a full refund.
