Pets make a house a home, but on occasion, they also make a mess. (They’re still perfect.)

If your cleaning cabinet is armed with a pet-specific stain and odor remover, heads-up: one sold through Walmart, Amazon, Chewy, and multiple other stores has been recalled for a possible safety issue affecting humans.

On Thursday, the Consumer Products Safety Commission, or CPSC, announced a recall on two scents of Angry Orange Enzyme Stain Removers. Angry Orange’s site states the brand “got its start fighting off industrial-sized stink from feedlots, sludge ponds, and boarding kennels.” Some of its marketing notes the inclusion of “natural orange oil” that’s “from cold-pressed orange peels,” as some citrus-based cleaning products can neutralize odors.

Recall advisories suggest that the recalled products contain not orange oil but enzymes, evidently to break down stains—but interestingly, while the pictured recalled product on CPSC’s site is called “Angry Orange Stain & Odor Remover,” retail sites like Amazon feature a similar product using only the “Odor Remover” language. It’s possible the product name underwent a change in the span of time the now-recalled product was sold: March 2019 through December 2025.

So while an ingredients list for the recalled product is not easily accessible, the reported hazard prompting the consumer alert is the following, from Angry Orange’s site:

“The recalled products can contain bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an environmental organism found widely in soil and water. People with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, or underlying lung conditions who are exposed to Pseudomonas aeruginosa face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment. The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin. People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by bacteria.”

The recall reportedly affects 1.5 million units in the U.S. and nearly 45,000 in Canada of the brand’s “Fresh Clean” and “Orange Twist” scents sold in 24-ounce, 32-ounce, and single-gallon sizes. The CPSC reports the products have been sold through the following retailers: “Walmart, Target, The Home Depot, Meijer, Staples, TJ Maxx and other major retailers nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Target.com, AngryOrange.com and Chewy.com.”

The brand is offering a refund as the remedy, with instructions available through its site. The CPSC lists Thrasio as the Boston-based manufacturer, but Amazon cites Chempace Corporation, which appears to be based in Ohio.
