Several customers reportedly first discovered this problem that could cause serious health effects for millions of Americans.
More Than 57,000 Good & Gather Frozen Products Were Just Recalled From Target Stores in All 50 States
While we know that frozen meals may not necessarily be the best for us, they sure do make mealtime prep easier. If you’re looking to keep dinner on time while also prioritizing healthy eating, nutrition experts at the Cleveland Clinic do offer a few suggestions, such as looking for frozen meals with fewer than seven ingredients and less than 600 milligrams of sodium.
But if you recently picked up a frozen product from one of the nation’s biggest retailers, it’s time to double-check the freezer—a certain meal could contain a potentially dangerous ingredient. Late Wednesday, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced the voluntary recall of 57,240 “consumer units” of Good & Gather Southwest-Style Burrito Bowl Blend.
The recalled product, sold in frozen 12-ounce (340g) bags, was distributed through Target retail stores nationwide, in all 50 states. Target also acknowledged the recall on its website early Thursday.
Produced by One Frozen, LLC of Rochester, New York, the burrito bowl blend was found to contain undisclosed shrimp—a potential hazard for those with shellfish allergies. It was three consumer complaints of “the possible presence of shrimp” that reportedly led to the recall’s initiation.
The item first reached store freezers on April 17, 2025, and bore a “Best By” date of August 24, 2026. You can spot the products, which are packaged in red, square-shaped steam-in bags, using the items’ UPC code and lot codes, which can be found under the nutrition label on the back of the packaging.
- UPC: 085239931356
- Lot Codes: L5055-1, L5055-2, L5055-3, L5055-4, L5055-5, and L5055-6
Though the incident has not yet been classified, the FDA expressed concern that consuming the product could result in serious harm. “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to shellfish run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the notice warns.
The nonprofit organization Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) notes that shellfish allergies “are the most common food allergies in adults and among the most common food allergies in children. Further, the Cleveland Clinic states around 2% of Americans have a shellfish allergy, which equates to around 6 million people.
“About 60 percent of people with shellfish allergy experience their first allergic reaction as adults,” FARE says. “Allergic reactions can be unpredictable, and even very small amounts of shellfish can cause one.”
No illnesses were reported at time of publishing. If you find the product in your own freezer, the FDA says to not consume it and contact Target Guest Relations at (800) 444-0680 for a full refund.
