Tom Holland, suited up as Spider-Man for the fourth installment of the blockbuster franchise, is said to have suffered a mild concussion while performing a stunt on Friday and taken to the hospital after his onset injury. The Sun reports that Holland “cracked his head in a fall” and an ambulance was called to the Leavesden Studios set, located Northwest of London. A female stunt double, reportedly also injured in the botched stunt, was also taken to the hospital. Filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now suspended while Holland takes a break “out of precaution.”

Shortly after his injury, over the weekend Holland and his fiancee and Spider-Man co-star, Zendaya, were spotted at Christie’s auction house in London at a benefit for Holland’s family’s foundation. However, some reports have suggested Holland called it a night early after feeling ill.

Indeed rest is likely to be an important factor in Holland’s recovery, Cleveland Clinic experts suggest: “Your brain will automatically redirect all its energy to healing itself after an injury. It will send signals to your body to get you to slow down and avoid activities. That’s where concussion symptoms come from. They’re your brain’s way of telling you to take it easy while it heals.”

The Cleveland Clinic also explains concussions can cause headache, neck pains, balance problems, nausea, double vision, light or sound sensitivity, fatigue, memory or processing problems, mood swings, and more. “Concussions stretch and injure nerves and blood vessels in your brain,” Clinic experts explain. “They cause chemical changes that temporarily make your brain stop working like it should.”

In the U.S., between 1,000,000 and 3,000,000 people visit the emergency room with a concussion each year. Though Cleveland suggests most patients will heal from their brain injury within two to six weeks and not suffer any long-term effects, roughly 15% of patients develop post-concussion syndrome, which causes ongoing or even permanent symptoms.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention add that following a handful of concussion recovery rules can hasten the process and prevent complications—from the CDC’s site:

  • Prioritize a good night’s sleep and light activity such as short walks. If an activity makes symptoms worse, be sure to stop and rest.
  • Minimize time using screens or around bright lights and loud noises, if these activities make symptoms worse.
  • As you start to feel better, do aerobic exercise for 20-30 minutes to help your recovery.
  • Stay connected to friends, loved ones, and doctors, and ask for help when you need it.
  • Keep track of your symptoms.
  • Don’t return to work, driving, sports, or other physical activities on the day of your injury.

To that last point, producers are slated to meet today to discuss when filming will resume. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently scheduled for release in theaters on July 31, 2026.
