Found at a beloved big-box retailer, it's a refreshing drink perfect for cooling off—but bacteria could be an issue in some sold bottles.

A Popular Coca-Cola Product Has Been Recalled From Costco Locations in 2 States

With summer temperatures starting to climb across the U.S., don’t forget to stay properly hydrated. If you love the fizz of a soft drink but want to avoid the calories (or sugar), there are seemingly endless sparkling or mineral water brands and flavors to choose from (or maybe give lemon water a try while you’re at it).
But one popular drink pick, owned by one of the most iconic worldwide brands, is facing a new recall—and it affects customers who frequent a cost-saving retailer.
Late Monday, Costco posted information about a Topo Chico Mineral Water recall. The posted letter—possibly sent to certain Costco members—states that Coca-Cola is voluntarily recalling “a limited quantity” of Topo Chico Mineral Water sold in 18-packs of 16.09-ounce bottles.
The Coca-Cola Company owns the Topo Chico brand, which is “one of the world’s largest and best sparkling mineral water brands,” per the company’s website.
The recall was put into effect due to “the possibility of contamination with pseudomonas.” Pseudomonas are a type of bacteria commonly found in water, produce, or soil, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
The posted letter states, “The health consequences of consuming mineral water with the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa is considered to be very low in healthy individuals with potential minor health consequences if consumed by individuals with weakened immune systems.”
P. aeruginosa, the most common of this type of bacteria to cause infections in humans, can “affect your skin, blood, lungs, GI tract and other parts of your body,” per the Cleveland Clinic, and it can be a difficult infection to treat due to antibiotic resistance concerns.
The recalled Topo Chico bottles were apparently sold at “select Texas and Louisiana warehouses” between the dates of May 20 and May 29, according to the notice.
Additional product details include:
