If you're a regular visitor of TJ's freezer section, you'll want to know what four other consumers reportedly discovered.
Over 3 Million Pounds of a Popular Chicken Item—Some Sold at Trader Joe’s “Nationwide”—Recalled for Possible Presence of Glass
There’s a lot to love about Trader Joe’s, but the freezer section can stand out. For vegetables, desserts, and meals that are ready to eat with a quick 10-minute sautee, it’s an inspired place to stock up.
But on Friday, a major government alert was issued affected approximately 3,370,530 pounds of chicken fried rice. The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service, or FSIS, advised that two brands are affected: one “was shipped to Trader Joe’s locations nationwide,” says the alert, and the other is branded as Ajinomoto Yakitori, which was reportedly shipped to Canada.
Specific product details are as follows, from the FSIS site:
- 1.53-kg. cardboard packages containing 6 bags of frozen “AJINOMOTO YAKITORI CHICKEN WITH JAPANESE-STYLE FRIED RICE” with BEST BEFORE/MEILLEUR AVANT dates 26 SE 09 through 26 NO 12.
- 20-oz. (1 lb. 4 oz.) plastic bag packages containing frozen “TRADER JOE’S Chicken Fried Rice with stir fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs” with BEST BY dates 9/8/2026 through 11/17/2026.
Both are said to bear establishment number P-18356.
Portland, OR-based Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc., is the recalling firm, “after the establishment notified FSIS that it received four consumer complaints regarding glass found in product.” They go on to say, “There have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider.”
The FSIS says they are “concerned that some product may be in retailers’ or consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
