If turmeric is in your lineup to lower inflammation and support pain-free joints, you might recognize the name Qunol as one of most recognizable brands that sell it.

Qunol’s turmeric comes in both liquid and capsule form, the latter of which appears to have two lot codes under recall—that’s according, at least, to a January 29 announcement from Wegmans, a grocer with nearly 120 stores frequented by customers in Connecticut, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Based on Wegmans’ alert, it appears two bottle sizes of Qunol Turmeric High Absorption Supplement 1000 milligrams (mg) sold in any of these states could be involved in the recall; the report doesn’t indicate that they’re isolated to select locations.

Opella is the pharmaceutical company that owns Qunol and touts “the purest and third-largest portfolio in the Over-The-Counter (OTC) & Vitamins, Minerals & Supplements (VMS) market.”

An Opella spokesperson commented Friday: “There were about 15 retailers that sold these few specific batches,” adding:

“Qunol takes patient safety very seriously and stands by the well-established safety profile of all its products. Out of an abundance of caution, Qunol is voluntarily recalling a few batches of its Turmeric 1000mg capsules in 60 and 120 counts, which is the only product impacted by this recall. Qunol is conducting this recall in communication with the FDA.”

Qunol is a nutritional supplement brand often advertised on mainstream television channels and sold at retailers like Costco, though the spokesperson further noted: “Costco is not impacted by this recall.” The brand’s turmeric supplements in both liquid and capsule formulations are promoted to yield “extra high” or “enhanced” absorption.
