New details have emerged about a Marketside product, including which Walmart locations carried the potentially contaminated produce.

An Ongoing Walmart Recall Was Just Upgraded to the Nation’s Highest Risk Level

It’s been a tough past few weeks for fresh produce. Salmonella, a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning, has been linked to two separate product events recently: a massive cucumbers recall, affecting grocery stores across the country, and a recall of tomatoes. More information was just released by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concerning one of them, specifically for shoppers who frequent a mega retailer.
In May, we first reported that Walmart voluntarily initiated a recall of Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices due to possible Salmonella contamination. This week, in a report shared with the public Wednesday, the FDA shared additional details.
Walmart originally initiated the recall on May 20, then a press release was posted on May 23. However, the FDA just announced that the recall is being considered a Class I event—the most serious classification the agency uses. The Class I label is reserved for situations where there could be “serious adverse health consequences or death,” per the FDA’s website.
The cucumbers were reportedly distributed to several areas in Texas. The FDA report mentions the following 12 retail locations: Ennis, Palestine, Longview, Benbrook/Ft. Worth, Wichita Falls, Frisco Stonebrook, Longview (SE), Saginaw, Rockwall, Lindale, Irving, and Paris.
The latest product details provided by the report are:
- Fresh cut cucumber slices, Marketside
- Packaged in clear plastic circular container with clear plastic lid and white adhesive label with black print
- Code information: 00262969000006
- All date codes up to 5/24/25
- Recalling firm: Walmart, Inc., Bentonville, AR 72716
The report also indicates that 522 units have been recalled “based on point of sale information at stores.”
As of a May 30 update, the FDA and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 45 total illnesses in 18 states have been connected the current Salmonella outbreak in cucumbers.
Cucumbers, sliced or whole, typically last for about a week in the refrigerator before expiring, according to our sister site Taste of Home. Though it seems likely that anyone who purchased Walmart’s Marketside cucumber slices has already consumed or discarded the product, consumers should check their fridge—and freezer, too—for the produce and, if found, throw it out.
