Whether you’re lactose intolerant, allergic to dairy, or simply looking to cut back on the cream after one too many holiday buffets, dairy-free desserts make it possible to still enjoy the flavors and textures you love. But a new recall affecting a well-known brand’s dairy-free ice cream substitute serves as a reminder that even these health-conscious desserts can struggle to meet safety standards.

According to a December 15 notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Danone U.S. is voluntarily recalling certain pints of its So Delicious Dairy Free Salted Caramel Cluster Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert after identifying the potential presence of foreign materials, including “small stones or other hard objects.” The recalled products were sold at retail locations nationwide, with Walmart, Target, Wegmans, and Publix among the confirmed vendors.

The recall is limited to one specific, cashew milk-based product bearing “Best By” dates before August 8, 2027, as well as the SKU 136603 and UPC 744473476138. Packaging for this product was updated in February 2025, though the UPC remained the same, meaning affected items may appear in either older or newer packaging.

Walmart reports that the affected dessert was “sold at all Walmart stores.” Target’s notice mentions that the 16-ounce pints retailed at stores and online for $5.39. Distributed via that retailer, they were marked with the Target code 288-07-2645 and the online item number 50521978.

According to a press statement posted on the So Delicious website, the problem was traced to the cashew inclusions used in the dessert. The company emphasized that consumer safety prompted the voluntary action. No other So Delicious Dairy Free flavors, formats, or product lines are included in the recall.

The FDA has been notified, and Danone U.S. says it is working with retail partners to remove impacted products from store shelves, stating, “In the meantime, the company has already identified and corrected this issue and will soon be able to bring back the frozen dessert so many people enjoy.”

Consumers who have purchased the affected pints are advised not to eat the product. Instead, the FDA’s notice instructs people to seek a refund through the So Delicious Dairy Free Care Line at 1-833-367-8975, available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST, or by submitting a request through the company’s online contact formThe company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
