Before you prepare for that poolside hangout or backyard Memorial Day gathering, there’s a new recall to check if you’ve been tasked with bringing a side salad or snack to share.

This week we reported that Walmart had joined an ongoing recall connected to cucumbers with reported Salmonella contamination. Now, new details from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reveal a Walmart house brand item has been affected, too.

Friday, the FDA announced that Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices have now been voluntarily recalled by Walmart Inc. in Bentonville, AR. Similar to Great Value, Marketside is one of the private brand labels owned by Walmart, typically designated to their perishable goods.

The FDA’s notice indicates the cucumber slices were “produced in select stores located in Texas” between May 13 and May 20. Information posted Friday on Walmart’s recall page confirms the products were “sold in select Walmart stores” in Texas, though further location details were not included.

The recall went into effect because “this product may contain recalled whole cucumbers supplied by Bednar Growers, Inc. of Boynton Beach, FL.” Cucumbers from Bednar Growers, Inc. have been cited by the FDA and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as part of a multistate Salmonella outbreak, which has infected 26 people in 15 states as of May 19.

No illnesses have been reported in connection to the Marketside cucumber slices recall, says the FDA.

The product details are:

  • Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices
  • UPC: 62969
  • Average unit weight: 1.5 pounds
  • Date Codes: All date codes up to 5/24/2025

Any recalled cucumbers should be thrown out, destroyed, or return the original place of purchase for a full refund, advises the FDA.

The notice also says: “Anyone with the recalled product in their possession should not consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products.” The agency recommends fully disinfecting any surfaces the contaminated cucumbers may have touched.
