The sweet treat is a satisfying way to get your sugar fix, but a recall could potentially impact shoppers across nine states.

Chocolate Has Just Been Recalled by a Popular Retailer

Yesterday, The Healthy reported on a mini muffin recall by an East Coast supermarket chain, and now that same company has announced a new recall that consumers should know about.
Wegmans is recalling 18.5-ounce packages of Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils due to an “undeclared milk allergen.” The report does not state the total number of products that are affected.
Milk allergies are “one of the most common types of food allergy,” affecting an estimated 2% of all children in the United States, says the Cleveland Clinic. Mild symptoms include hives, diarrhea, and vomiting; however, a milk allergy can cause dangerous and life-threatening reactions, such as chest tightness, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, and anaphylaxis.
The grocer released these identifying details:
- Product: Wegmans Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils 18.5 OZ
- UPC: 77890-49787
- Lot Code:
- LOT 55021 BEST BY: DEC 28, 2025
- LOT 55031 BEST BY: DEC 29, 2025
- LOT 55491 BEST BY: FEB 13, 2026
- LOT 55501 BEST BY: FEB 14, 2026
- LOT 56061 BEST BY: APR 11, 2026
- LOT 56071 BEST BY: APR 12, 2026
Wegmans made the recall announcement on Monday, June 16. The report confirms that the items were sold at Wegmans locations, but it does not share at which locations they were available.
However, Wegmans—which is “one of the largest private companies in the U.S.,” according to its website—appears to have more than 100 stores in nine states, as well as Washington, D.C.: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
The Wegmans notice states that consumers can return the recalled Semi-Sweet Chocolate Nonpareils to a customer service desk for a full refund.
Consumers can also contact Wegmans Food Markets at 1-855-934-3663.
