This Popular Treat from the Frozen Aisle Was Just Recalled in 14 States

Updated: Jul. 19, 2023

If you shop at any of the nation’s major grocery chains, you’ll probably recognize this product.

During a summer when it’s never been quite so critical to find relief from the heat and stay cool, one frozen bite may not be such a sweet idea for people who have a certain intolerance.

As of July 18, 2023, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, Inc. recalled six-count packs of its Outshine No Sugar Added Strawberry Fruit Bars as some batches may contain an undeclared milk allergen. According to the brand’s press release, they believe this was caused by a faulty valve which allowed small levels of milk to be introduced into the bars.

For those with an allergy or milk sensitivity, the bars, if consumed, may run the risk of causing serious and potentially life-threatening allergic reactions. Luckily, no injuries or illnesses have been reported thus far.

The affected product was shipped to three retailers in the following states: Kroger (VA, WV, OH and KY) Shoprite (MD, PA, VA, DE and NJ) and Wal-Mart (AR, MO, TN, MS, KY, AL and LA). The recall affects the strawberry fruit bars with batch numbers LLA317822 and LLA317922 and a ‘Best By’ date of September 30, 2024.

Dreyer’s is currently working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on an ongoing investigation for this recall and will proceed accordingly based on their recommendations.

Those who have purchased the faulty frozen treats have been recommended to throw them away or return them to the store for a full refund. No other Outshine products or batches are affected by this recall at this time, so if you have another box of Outshine sitting in your freezer then you might as well go enjoy while the sun’s still shining.
