Family Dollar Just Recalled Several Advil Products—Here’s What We Know

It may be time to check your medicine cabinet.
From headaches to body aches, Advil is easily one of the best over-the-counter pain relievers. It’s also one of the most commonly used OTC drugs, which is why consumers may need to check their Advil bottles following a product recall announced on May 4. Specifically, if they bought their Advil from a Family Dollar store.
According to the announcement by the Food and Drug Administration, a variety of Advil products have been voluntarily recalled by Family Dollar. Before going through your medicine cabinet though, here’s what you need to know when checking any Advil products.
Which over-the-counter Advil products have been recalled?
A variety of Advil products shipped to certain Family Dollar stores on or around June 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023, were stored outside of labeled temperature requirements. According to the National Institute of Health, ibuprofen, the generic name for the drug in Advil, cannot be stored in excessive heat or humidity. Rather, it should be stored at “a controlled room temperature,” which falls between 68 to 77 degrees.
As a result, the following Advil products have been recalled:
- 0901458 ADVIL 200MG TABLET 100CT
- 0901839 ADVIL 200 MG CAPLET 24 CT
- 0902867 ADVIL DUAL ACTION 36CT CAPLET
- 0913023 ADVIL TABLET 50CT
- 0916071 ADVIL LIQUID GEL 40 CT
- 0999259 ADVIL TABLET 6CT
- 0999841 ADVIL LIQUI GEL MINIS 20CT
As of now, Family Dollar reports that they are unaware of any consumer complaints or any reports of illnesses due to the products.
How do I know if I have one of the recalled Advil products?
Consumers can tell if they have an affected product based on the product’s batch number. A batch number is a 6-digit code that identifies a product’s manufacturing history. The number can usually be found on the back or bottom of a product container.
To know whether you have an impacted product, you can check your Advil containers for the following batch numbers:

What should I do if I have a recalled product?
Fortunately, Family Dollar has notified the affected stores, which will check their stock and discontinue the sale of each impacted product. If you do happen to have any of these recalled products, they can be returned to the Family Dollar store where they were purchased without a receipt.
The FDA advises that if customers experienced any issues related to the use of these Advil products to contact their physician or health care provider. If consumers did experience any issues or adverse reactions, they can submit an online form or download or request a form at 1-800-332-1088 to mail or fax it.
